Lincoln Airport

The prominent Lincoln Airport in the city of Lincoln in Nebraska, US, was previously known as the Lincoln Municipal Airport. This public airport is known to be located approximately 6km to the northwest of the Lincoln city in the Lancaster County in Nebraska, US. The Lincoln Airport is known to serve the metropolitan of Lincoln including much of the southeastern region of Nebraska. This airport is approximately 6.4 km from the northwest of downtown Lincoln and is close to north and west of Interstate 80.

This airport has a lengthy landing strip which has now been designed as an emergency landing site for the space shuttle though it was never into much use. One of the aviation agencies working out of this airport is Duncan Aviation.

All scheduled flights from Lincoln Airport terminate within the United States regularly as of 2006. The various airlines operating in the Lincoln airport are Allegiant Air, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. The Allegiant Air is known to operate between Las Vegas and Lincoln while the Northwest Airlink flights operating under the Northwest Airlines are known to operate between Detroit, Minneapolis and Lincoln city, Nebraska. The United Express flights under the United Airlines operate between Chicago O’Hare, Denver and Lincoln. During the World War II the airfield was named as Lincoln Army Air Field and was used for the purpose of mechanics and fight crew training. This air field remained in operation until it was transferred back to the city of Lincoln in December 1945.

The Lincoln airfield was back in action in the year 1952 as the Lincoln Air Force Base and it operated as a Strategic Air Command bomber and missile base until its installation was closed down by the US Air Force in the year 1966. Currently a part of the Lincoln Airport is known to be the home to the 155th Air Refueling Wing of the Nebraska Air National Guard and also known to house several Army National Guard units both of which are known to be situated to the east of the runway 36 along side the taxiway Delta.
