Bus transport is the major transportation system that offers conveyance to both tourists to Lincoln and the local residents planning to go to places inside Lincoln. Bus transport in Lincoln is operated by the public bus transport system of Star Tran. The fleet of Star Tran consists of 60 big buses and at least 9 Handi-Vans.

Star Tran takes total care of the aspect of pollution and conservation of natural resources. This Bus Transport system is one of those transportation systems that use ethanol as the fuel for the running of their buses. Most of the buses of Star Tran are run by a mixture made of 8% ethanol and 92% blended diesel. These buses started running by this blend since, 2005. The other buses that are not run by this fuel are run by bio-diesel fuel made from 25% of soybean oil and 75% of diesel. These buses started running by this fuel in January, 1994.

The annual operational budget of Star Tran was $8,585,826. 65.75% of this amount is actually provided by the city itself, 16.64% of the amount is coming from the user fees. 16.06% of this amount is collected federally and 1.55% is collected from the state of Nebraska. In the year 2004-05, 1,648, 744 riders boarded the buses of Star Tran. The number grew to 1, 826,289 in the year 2005-06 (the figure of the number of riders consists of the riders of both the full-sized buses and the handi-vans).
