Lincoln is the capital of Nebraska. It was originally founded around salt mines, where saline springs bubbled to the surface of a dry lake bed. Blessed with a legacy of planned development and growth, Lincoln is a vibrant community with great appreciation for life's finest pleasures, food, art, music, sports and outdoors, all more affordable and accessible than in the nation's major cities. Parks and gardens of Lincoln are among the most popular tourist attractions in Lincoln. Holmes Park and Lake is a very famous park of Lincoln.

Holmes Park and Lake is located on Antelope Creek. It covers an area of 112-acre. Recreational opportunities at Holmes Park and Lake include hiking, biking, picnicking and golfing. Holmes Lake is a 110-acre reservoir built for flood control and recreation in 1962 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Lincoln Parks and Recreation is responsible for the management of the lake and the surrounding park. Sailboats, paddle boats or canoes can be rented at the marina. Fishing is very popular and picnic sites provide opportunities to cook the catch of the day. The wind-surfers on the lake provide colorful and interesting entertainment. The park also houses ball diamonds, playgrounds, a golf course and Hyde Memorial Observatory. On Independence Day it's home to the city's annual fireworks display. In winter, part of the lake is cleared of snow for ice skating and sledders fill the hills.
