A wide variety of mammals like ungulates, carnivores and Proboscideans are found in the University of Nebraska State Museum. These are one of the earliest collections of the University of Nebraska State Museum. During the later half of 1930, these collections were introduced in the museum. In the recent years, techniques of screenwashing has been applied to numerous classic sites as well as samples of the microvertebrates that forms an important part of the University of Nebraska State Museum. Most of the popular collections are derived from the caves of New Mexico. The Cretaceous sample is derived from Bug Creek of Montana.
There is a laboratory within the University of Nebraska State Museum that conduct various research programs. The research deals with application of laboratory techniques and preservation of fossils. The fossil heritage is the most famous site in the museum. The wide range of collections of the museum has been possible by accumulating fossils for more than hundred years.
The museum also arrange many events, which are related with the history of art in Nebraska. Events like Loren Eiseley Continental are held, where the members of the Eiseley Society arrange a two-day event of celebrating the life of Eiseley. There are two centers within the museum that arrange interesting events. They are Marx Discovery Center and Mueller Planetarium.
