The Nebraska Art Association and the University of Nebraska collection together constitute over a total of twelve thousand art works in all types of medias.
Tourists can enjoy a rare collection of American art along with popular works of the nineteenth century. The museum is said to have the largest collection of the twentieth century of North American art. The Sculpture Garden in Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery within the museum has nearly thirty monumental sculptures. There are also works by some of the most popular artists like David Smith, Bryan Hunt, Gaston Lachaise, Claes Oldenburg, William Tucker, Michael Heizer, Richard Serra, etc.
Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery hosts nearly twenty art exhibitions every year. These exhibitions are mainly focused on the art of America and mainly organized by the curatorial members of the art gallery. Various educational programs like lectures, symposia, workshops for children, etc are organized by the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery. The museum also arrange tours for the people.
