Lincoln, the capital of Nebraska, has earned a reputation as one of the Midwest's most beloved cities. Lincoln is one of the few large cities of Nebraska not located along either the Platte River or the Missouri River. Home to fine culinary and artistic treasures; a budding live music scene; breathtaking parks, golf courses, and trails; and a friendly Midwestern attitude, Lincoln offers the exhilaration of a big city and the serenity of the countryside all in one place. Lincoln Zoo is a natural oasis in the heart of downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. The institution has seen great changes in the city and its demographics during its 40-year existence and has responded with a range of programs that make the natural world accessible to even the most under served groups.

Lincoln Zoo sets a high standard for other Lincoln cultural and educational institutions by making the most of the city’s rich diversity. At this zoo, you can get up close for a child's eye view of more than 300 animals. Amur leopards, Bactrian camels, river otters, eagles, crocodiles, reindeer, naked mole rats and several species of primates can be seen at Lincoln Zoo. One-third of the animals are threatened or endangered species. The Critter Encounter, pony rides and a trip on the Z Railroad are experiences to treasure. Visitors can watch as butterflies emerge from their cocoon state in the Butterfly Pavilion. The botanical gardens feature annuals, perennials, herbs and 50 different types of trees that are woven throughout the exhibits.
