Lincoln is the state capital and thriving home of the University of Nebraska. It was originally founded around salt mines, where saline springs bubbled to the surface of a dry lake bed. Today, the historic Haymarket area downtown is a popular center for dining, shopping and entertainment. The capitol building is worthy of a visit. Its interior includes thousands of carvings, paintings and mosaics detailing Nebraskan history.

The high-end daily fee course features 22 lakes with four large waterfalls interwoven into a mile and half of streams that wind through a course bordered with mature trees. The Championship golf course offers the advanced golfer a challenge while welcoming the beginner onto its bent-grass fairways and greens. The Lied Center for Performing Arts offers many concerts and shows. Lincoln Zoo features up-close viewing of more than 300 animals with the child's eye view in mind. Animals to see include Amur leopards, Bactrian camels, river otters, eagles, crocodiles, reindeer, mole rats and several species of primates.
