Lincoln Capitols was famous as one of the professional indoor football team of Lincoln. The team used to play all their home games at Pershing auditorium in Lincoln. The team had undergone many changes in the names in their short span.
At the beginning the Lincoln Capitols indoor football team was going to be named the Nebraska knockouts. But unfortunately the name was scrapped. After that from the year 1999 to 2000 the it was called as the Lincoln Lightning of Indoor football League.

After the Indoor Football League or IFL was brought out the team took part in the farm league of Arena Football in the 2001 season and afterwards Lincoln Capitols left the league.
The Lincoln Capitols joined NIFL under the name but after only one season the franchise come to an end. The Lincoln Capitols was there for only foru years ad durng th four year period could produce only one notable player named Damon Benning – a former Nebraska Cornhusker running back palyer. The owner of te franchise was Scott Atkins.
During the short lived span of the team Lincoln Capitols won a few games, lost a considerable few and had ties in some games too. Despite of all the success that the team had in the regular seasons Lincoln Capitols in most cases experieced a pushover. They were the only team to be lost at two shutouts in NIFL. This earns them a record as in very rare a case such a thing happened at NIFL.
To end the competition with AFPL Lincoln Capitols was merged with St. Joseph Storm and become St Joseph Storm. But in spite of that Lincoln Capitols perfromed poorly. Afterwards St. Joseph Storm was purchased by the league who used it as a travelling team.
