One of the fastest-expanding metro areas of the Midwest, the city of Lincoln is the capital and the second most populous city of the U.S. state of Nebraska. The county seat of the Lancaster county, Lincoln is one of the few large cities of Nebraska that is not located along either the Platte River or the Missouri River. Originally called Lancaster, the city was renamed in honor of the U.S. President Abraham Lincoln two years after his assassination, and has ever since served as the state capital.
